With fear already aroused from the Red Scare, the two Italian anarchists: Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti did not get much sympathy from many Americans. They were arrested for the murder of a guard in Massachusetts. They were sentenced to die in 1921. Many liberals found the evidence somewhat flimsy. Some thought that the two Italians were only punished because of their appearance and their racial beliefs. Appeal and appeal fail so the governor decided that their case should be reexamined. Finally, the commission that the governor assigned stated their verdict. The two men were electrocuted on the night of August 23,1927. Although there was no turning back, many held massive protest. Their case did not just go away though. On the fiftieth anniversary of when they die, the governor exonerated them.
